Sandoval Appoints David Gibson to Eighth JD Family Court Seat

Governor Brian Sandoval announced today that he has appointed David S. Gibson, Jr. to the Eighth Judicial District Family Court, Department L vacancy. Gibson is currently a juvenile dependency hearing master in the Eighth Judicial District.

"David has worked with the current sitting District Court Judges in the Eighth Judicial District and I am confident that his experience and understanding of family court cases will serve him well in this new role," Governor Brian Sandoval said.

Gibson, who has served as a hearing master since 2012, received his J.D. in 2002 from the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). He received his B.A. from UNLV and is a graduate of Basic High School in Henderson.

From January 2000 to April 2003, Gibson served as a law clerk and then associate attorney at Rands, South & Gardner. From April 2003 to August 2004, Gibson owned and managed a solo law practice. In August 2004, Gibson joined Mills & Mills where he handled civil litigation and family law matters. In June 2007, Gibson returned to private practice, where he handled family law and other matters until he was appointed as a hearing master, presiding over juvenile dependency matters from removal to permanency in November 2012.

"I am very grateful for the confidence Governor Sandoval has expressed in me through this appointment," David Gibson said. "I have benefited greatly by the support of my wife, children, extended family and friends, and I intend to continue my family's tradition of exemplary service to my community. I am also grateful to have been included with such a qualified group if applicants for this position. I am ready to get to work for the families of Clark County."

Gibson is admitted to practice in the Federal District Court, District of Nevada and is a member of the State Bar of Nevada as well as the Clark County Bar Association. Since 2012, Gibson has been a member of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges. Gibson currently sits on the board of Las Gaviotas Foundation, a non-profit which provides educational funding for children in Mexico, Guatemala and Peru.
